PETALING JAYA: A total of 15 investigation papers were opened by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following the findings in Auditor-General's Report 2012.
MACC investigation director Datuk Mustafar Ali said the MACC viewed seriously the weaknesses exposed by the report.
"It is the duty and responsibility of the MACC to probe corruption cases, abuses of power and misappropriation highlighted by the report," he said in a statement on Sunday.
Mustafar said the MACC has set up a special team with the National Audit Department to carry out follow up action.
"The MACC, which is leading this team, will present the findings, action plan and recommendations to take action against those who have committed bribery, misappropriation, abuse of power and forgery," he said.
On the setting up of a special committee chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Mustafar said this was a significant and proactive effort so that issues raised in the report do not recur.
"At the same time, strict action can be taken against those who are careless and fail to obey the law, " he said.
He said aside from conducting investigations, the MACC also had discussions with the department to obtain information, which can be helpful in their probe.
Following the 2011 AG Report, a total of two cases were brought to court while five government servants were subjected to disciplinary action.
The AG Report 2012 was tabled last Tuesday in the Dewan Rakyat.
