Ladies and gentleman here it is: the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR is scheduled to be available in early September 2016 at $3,499 for the body only. It will also be sold as part of body-and-lens kits with the EF 24-70mm f/4L lens ($4,399, scheduled early September) and the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens ($4599, scheduled late October).

WASHINGTON, April 12. Amazon is preparing to release a smartphone in the second half of 2014, thrusting itself into a market already crowded with Apple and Samsung models, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The company aims to announce its new product by the end of June and ship to customers by the end of September in time for the holidays, the Journal said in a report yesterday, citing unnamed people briefed on the matter.

Amazon, it said, hopes to differentiate its phone from other models with a screen that displays hologram-like three-dimensional images, which can be viewed without special glasses.

The company has been showing versions of the phone to developers in San Francisco and Seattle, the sources said.

Earlier this month the retailer unveiled a new media streaming device, Amazon Fire TV, which it touted as simplifying the experience of watching video online.

The new device is part of Amazon’s strategy to expand from retail to multimedia, leveraging its Kindle tablets and streaming video.

The smartphone market is currently dominated by rivals Samsung and Apple as well as low-cost Chinese rivals like Lenovo and Huawei. AFP

A move by Samsung to include free anti-theft features on its Galaxy S5 smartphones sold by Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular won praise on Friday by two U.S. members of an international coalition aimed at combating robberies involving smartphones.

The new features allow Samsung Galaxy S5 users to track devices and require the owner's account information to reset the phone. The features, Find My Mobile, and Reactivation Lock, will come installed in the phones but must be activated by users.

"The decision ... to provide Samsung's Find My Mobile and Reactivation Lock features on Galaxy S5 smartphones and to allow those features to be activated for free is a step forward in our effort to ensure the industry makes effective theft deterrents available on every smartphone sold in America," New York's attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, and San Francisco's district attorney, George Gascon, said in a statement.

The Canon Legria Mini X combines stereo sound and camcorder features with smart phone convenience.

Smart phones have had cameras and camcorders quaking in their boots for a couple of years, but the convenience of a phone is still a long way off trumping the quality of a proper video camera. And so the Canon Legria Mini X aims for the best of both worlds, refusing to compromise on features in order to fit in your pocket.

Like a Flip Video with bells on, this mini Full HD camcorder has a built-in, fold-out stand, and a fold-out 2.7-inch screen. They allow to set the camera down and film hands-free but still keep an eye on the screen.

The Mini X has a stereo mic, positioned on either side of the lens with a "two-layer structure of mesh cloth and sponge", designed to cut down on background noise and static. For even better sound, you can plug in an external mic and monitor sound on headphones.

Canon reckons the flexible design and souped-up sound makes the Mini X versatile enough for video "from on-the-scene reporting, documentaries and self-recording, to capturing live music or theatrical performances."

The Mini X records AVCHD video at 1080/50i and MP4 at 1080/25p. It has built-in Wi-Fi for sharing and backing up your footage, and controlling via an app on your phone or tablet. You don't even have to be in the same room to view live footage and even -- if you mount the camera on the new Canon Camera Pan Table CT-V1 -- making the camera turn from side to side.

Modes include time lapse recording, fast motion, and slow motion.

Taking a more conventional approach, the Legria HF R56 and the Legria HF R506 are typical barrel-shaped camcorders with fold-out screens. Both shoot full HD and boast a 32x xoom. They arrive in the next few weeks, the HF R506 costing £239 and the Legria HF R56 adding Wi-Fi for £329.

The Legria Mini X is in shops next month for around £349.
