HARIMAU MALAYA KICK OUT SINGAPORE

A penalty by Safiq Rahim and a shot by Indra Putra Mahayuddin into an unguarded net gave Malaysia a 3-1 win over Singapore on Saturday as the defending champions were eliminated from the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Khairul Amri's late equaliser had appeared to rescue a draw for the Lions but 2010 winners Malaysia were awarded a spot kick as the game entered added time for a foul on Amri Yahyah.

Safiq kept his head to convert and with Singapore goalkeeper Hassan Sunny going up for a late corner, the Tigers broke clear and Indra Putra rolled the ball in from 30 metres to seal the victory and send four-time winners Singapore crashing out of the tournament.

Safee Sali had fired Malaysia into a 61st lead with an unstoppable effort from the edge of the Singapore box but Amri levelled in the 83rd minute when he bundled the ball into the net after Malaysia goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat had spilled a Safuwan Baharuddin free-kick.

Malaysia will meet Group A winners Vietnam in the semi-final with the first leg in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, December 7 while Thailand, who topped Group B with a perfect record after a 2-0 win over Laos at Jalan Besar Stadium will travel to Manila for the first leg of their semi-final against Group B runners-up Philippines a day earlier.

GERMANY BEAT BRAZIL 7-1

Germany have advanced to the FIFA World Cup™ Final with a sensational 7-1 drubbing of Brazil at the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte. The brilliance of Joachim Low's side was matched only by the ineptitude of the hosts, who suffered their heaviest-ever defeat and became the first team to concede seven in a knockout match at the world finals.
Most of the pre-match coverage had focused on the impact of Neymar's absence but, once the game got underway, it was clear that Thiago Silva - Brazil's captain and defensive rock - was the man they would miss most. Without him, A Seleção's defending was shambolic, with Germany able to slice their way through at will.
The tone was set by the opening goal after just 11 minutes, when Thomas Muller was allowed to steal in completely unmarked to casually volley home from Toni Kroos's outswinging corner. But there was no lesson learned. The hosts' defence continued to afford Germany's forwards the freedom of the penalty area, and it was no surprise when they were ruthlessly punished again 12 minutes later.
Salt was rubbed in Brazilian wounds by the identity of the goalscorer, with Miroslav Klose not only doubling the Germans' lead, but taking his World Cup tally to 16 to surpass Seleção legend Ronaldo as the tournament's record scorer. Again, the marking was non-existent, with the Lazio striker allowed two shots from close range, the first of which was blocked by Julio Cesar, with the second slotted routinely inside the right-hand post.
It was the spark for an incredible six-minute period, during which the Brazilian net bulged four times. Next up, with the pick of Germany's goals, was Kroos, who crashed in a first-time left-foot shot from the edge of the area after Muller had mis-kicked from Philipp Lahm's low cross. The Bayern Munich midfielder was impressive throughout and, a minute later, he made it 3-0 with another goal that owed much to Brazil's hesitant defending.
The guilty man on this occasion was Fernandinho, who allowed himself to be robbed by Kroos midway inside his own half and could only watch as the Germany No18 exchanged passes with Sami Khedira before passing into the net with Julio Cesar stranded. Even at this early stage, it was clear that the game was over as a contest, but though the Mineirao crowd was stunned, there was much, much worse to follow.
Germany's fifth goal was a near carbon copy of their fourth, though with Khedira the finisher rather then the supplier, side-footing confidently home from Mesut Ozil's pass. Brazil had not conceded five goals in a World Cup match since 1938, and while they won on that occasion - beating Poland 6-5 - there was never any chance of a comeback here.
Indeed, it took until the second half for Scolari's side to provide any kind of response, and even then they found Manuel Neuer in imposing form. The German keeper has been one of the players of the tournament and he again shone, first in blocking Oscar's outside-of-the-foot shot and then in pulling off a fantastic double save from substitute Paulinho when a goal seemed certain.
As it was, when the net next bulged, it was a German replacement who was celebrating. Again, the ease with which the Europeans scored was staggering, with Lahm given time and space to pick out Thomas Schurrle for the most straightforward of close-range finishes. And Germany weren't finished yet, with Schurrle again finding acres of space to control and volley left-footed off the underside of the bar, completing the hosts' suffering. Oscar did score a fine last-minute goal, evading Jerome Boateng before shooting high beyond Neuer, but to describe it as a consolation would be stretching the truth.
It was merely the final act of a match that will be forever remembered by all who witnessed it, and which leaves Brazil to wallow in misery and Germany to plan a Maracana meeting with Argentina or the Netherlands.GER

TSG Names Five Riders For Tour Of Thailand

KUALA TERENGGANU, March 25 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) has listed five riders, including two imports, to take part in the Maha Chackri Sirindhon's Cup 'Tour of Thailand' from April 1 to 6.

TSG manager Fazim Saad said the five would be headed by two national riders, Mohd Harrif Salleh and Mohammad Saufi Mat Senan who had joined TSG for the 2014 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) recently, and Mohd Nor Umardi Rosdi.

Meanwhile, the two foreign riders in the team are Muradjan Halmuratov (Uzbekistan) and Maarten de Jonge (Holland).

"For Muradjan and Maarten, this is the second time they are participating in a championship since joining TSG early this year. The first time was the Tour de Taiwan from March 9-13 and they did not take part in the 2014 LTdL," he told Bernama, here Tuesday.

According to Fazim, the aim of sending the two import riders was to test their prowess at a race that require climb experts.

He said in the Tour de Taiwan recently, both the foreign riders had performed well.

It is learnt that more than 30 teams would be taking part in the Tour of Thailand which would start in Bangkok and end in Chiang Rai.

Fazim said the TSG riders have been undergoing intensive training to prepare for the tour.

He added that TSG had also received an invitation to participate in the 2014 Le Tour de Filipinas from April 20 to 24. BERNAMA

Wrong Strategy Dashes Anuar's Hopes Of Finishing Among Stage 6 Winners

PONTIAN, March 4. Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) rider Anuar Manan missed out on a chance to finish on the podium after finishing in 10th spot when Stage 6 of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) ended here Tuesday.

The 27-year-old rider however, can take consolation of being the best Malaysian rider in the field.

Anuar said he was focusing on prominent sprinters Theo Bos (Belkin-Pro Cycling Team) and Andrea Guardini (Astana Pro Team) and did not notice an Androni Giocatolli-Venezuela rider breaking away to win the stage.

Kenny Van Hummel from Holland won the stage in a 'bunch sprint', edging Orica Greendedge rider Aidis Kruopis from Lithuania and American Ken Hanson from UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling.

However, all three riders were credited with the same times.

"Since I expected Guardini or Theo Bos to win the stage, I was behind Guardini and expecting him to make his move but he was slow to do so.

"I was in the group with Guardini and Theo Bos. So if Guardini or Theo Bos had moved early, I would have been among the top," he told reporters here.

Meanwhile, after Stage 6 which started in Melaka and ended in Pontian today, TSG are in fifth spot behind the Malaysian national team in the Best Asian Team category with a total time of 59'59:11s and placed 18 overall in the general classification.

National team rider Mohd Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi made a solo breakaway with about 20km remaining but was caught up by the others at the final 10km mark due to strong head winds.

The race continues tomorrow with Stage 7, the longest distance in the 2014 LTdL, from Kota Tinggi in Johor to Pekan in Pahang, a distance of 230.1km.

Stage 7 will comprise one climb zone at Mawai and three sprint zones in Mersing, Endau and Rompin. BERNAMA
