PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has sent clear signals to those intending to threaten its security that the country will defend its sovereignty at all cost, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said the Lahad Datu incursion served as a lesson for Malaysia to take concrete and effective measures to uphold the nation's security and prevent a similar recurrence.
He urged Malaysians to learn from the Lahad Datu incursion and to honour and remember the fallen heroes.
"The aspect of security must be the main pillar in the process to build a nation.
"In the nation-building process, the spirit of patriotism is an important foundation," he said at the handing over of the Warrior's Fund organised by the Public Services Department today to the families of the fallen and injured security personnel during the Lahad Datu Incursion.
The department had collected RM3.26 million from the civil service sector at federal and state levels, statutory bodies and sponsors.
The fund, set up on March 11, is managed by PSD, which is based on the concept from civil servants for civil servants which is the government's initiative to recognise the sacrifice of the nation's heroes.
Present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein , Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, PSD director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar. NST
