Don't Question MoU On Selangor Water Industry Restructure

KAJANG, March 4. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Selangor and federal governments pertaining to the former's water industry restructuring should not be questioned by any quarters, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said any effort to safeguard the people's interests should not be intertwined with the domestic problems of political parties.

"I think what (Selangor) Menteri Besar Tan Sri (Abdul) Khalid (Ibrahim) did was something good for the people of Selangor and (the rest of the) Klang Valley.

"If Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) strategic director Rafizi Ramli does not agree, that is his or PKR's leadership issue with Khalid, which does not have anything to do with the federal government's decision," he said after the national-level Anti-Drugs Day 2014 celebration at the Hulu Langat Education Office, here, Tuesday.

Ahmad Zahid was commenting on Rafizi's questioning of Khalid's wisdom in signing the MoU, which Rafizi had claimed to be one-sided and favoured the federal government in various aspects.

Last Wednesday, the federal and Selangor governments reached agreement on conditions that would facilitate the implementation of the Langat 2 water treatment plant and water assets acquisition in the state.

Under the MoU, the federal government agreed to the Selangor government's acquisition of four water concession companies, namely Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Bhd (Syabas), Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd (PNSB), Konsortium Abbas Sdn Bhd (Abbas) and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (Splash), with a compensation payment of RM9.65 billion.

At the Anti-Drugs Day celebration, Ahmad Zahid launched the new logo of the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and its latest service, the 1Malaysia Cure & Care mobile clinic.

Also present at the function were AADK director-general Datuk Zuraidah Mohamed and Social Care Foundation chairman Tan Sri Robert Phang.
