Datuk Seri Najib Razak was too hasty in replacing the Terengganu menteri besar and it was the prime minister's actions that is likely to lead to Barisan Nasional's (BN) loss of power in the state, Perkasa said today.
Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali (pic) said Najib should have considered former menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said's request to postpone his resignation until after his child's wedding this May 17.
"I understand that he (Ahmad) asked for his resignation to be postponed after his child's wedding. Najib refused. If he really did request that, Najib should have considered it, and not be so hasty in accepting Ahmad's resignation.
"One must be wise when making decisions, to ensure all parties are happy. Now it is all too late," said Ibrahim in a text message to The Malaysian Insider.
Astro Awani had earlier reported that Ahmad was unhappy with Najib after his request to postpone his resignation was rejected on the grounds that his child's wedding was a personal issue.
Three Umno state assemblymen, including Ahmad, have already quit the party to become independent representatives. More are expected to defect, Ahmad had said.
Ibrahim said Najib should have been more careful in his decision to remove Ahmad from the top post in Terengganu, given BN's already unsteady hold on the state.
"In Terengganu, BN only had a two-seat majority. (Najib should have been) careful and polite. Especially since Ahmad was already the menteri besar," said Ibrahim.
"This is what happens when you forget history and do not learn from your mistakes."
Ibrahim said he had been booted out from Umno during Tun Abdullah Badawi's premiership, but contested and won a seat as an independent candidate in the 2008 general election.
"I was removed by Abdullah from my position as Umno Pasir Mas chief without any reason given. Abdullah humiliated me. I contested as an independent in GE12. PAS won with a two-seat majority in Kelantan.
"At that time, Najib was deputy president and management committee director," said Ibrahim. – May 13, 2014.
