PKR activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin declared today that he would take “full responsibility” for a message posted on his Facebook that accuses the party’s election officials of lying about poll results.
“I do not want to comment, but I’ll take full responsibility for that posting,” he told FMT when his attention was drawn to the message.
Badrul, better known as Chegubard, is a former division chief for PKR Rembau.
The message, written in Malay, begins with a general allegation against PKR’s Central Election Committee, but is apparently directed at an election official who is a retired army officer.
It accuses the official of rigging the election in Kota Baru to give incumbent Deputy President Azmin Ali an advantage.
“The Central Election Committee’s official results are full of lies,” it says.
“For example, in the Kota Baru division, Azmin received three votes but official results state 59 votes.
“This is what you’ve been doing since 2010, right? But this time you’ve fumbled because you’re not rich enough to spend the amount you needed to, and we caught the fraud.
“This is the fate of Kota Baru.
“How much have you cheated in the interior areas, where we can’t hire lookouts for lack of funds?
“The Central Election Committee members who counted the votes in Kota Baru should step forward.
“You are a former major in the army. Don’t embarrass yourself.”
Another PKR insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, told FMT there was a “planned and concerted effort” to increase votes for Azmin and that the plot involved at least 16 party divisions besides Kota Baru.
“It is not limited to Kota Baru,” he said. “We’ve found out that the results were also rigged in Gua Musang, Indera Mahkota, Bukit Gantang and 13 other divisions.”
Chegubard urged party members to “stand united” with party boss Anwar Ibrahim in denouncing members who manipulate the polls.
“I am sad that there are some within the party who are more concerned about clinching positions at a time when Anwar himself may be incarcerated in prison,” he said.
“These are the same people who accused party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail of indulging in cronyism.”
