IPOH, June 16. Perak DAP Youth has joined the chorus of protest against the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar for not executing court decisions on child custody orders.
The wing, led by its state secretary Howard Lee, lodged a police report against Khalid at the police headquarters here today. Also present was state DAP Wanita head Lim Pek Har.
Lee said the failure of the IGP to comply with civil court orders was clearly a breach of his statutory duty.
"If such orders are ignored, it carries a negative impact and threatens the system. It also erodes the confidence of the people towards the judiciary," he added.
He said the DAP's central executive committee has instructed all state DAP Wanita and Youth wings in the country to lodge police reports against Khalid.
Khalid had earlier said police would not enforce conflicting custody orders from two courts and suggested the children be placed in welfare homes instead.
Last month, the Court of Appeal dismissed an application by N. Viran, a Muslim convert known as Izwan Abdullah, to set aside the Seremban High Court's decision which gave custody of his two children to their mother S. Deepa, a Hindu.
In Ipoh, M. Indira Gandhi, got a court order to cite her ex husband Muhammad Ridzuan Abdullah (K.Pathmanathan) for contempt of court after he failed to hand over the couple's youngest child Prasana Diksa (Ummu Habibah), six, in accordance with the High Court order on March 11, 2010. THE SUN DAILY
