MIRI, Jun 2, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak joined thousands of people to celebrate the national-level Gawai day celebration this evening.
More than 5,000 people attended the event, which was held at the Miri City Fan Complex here.
Among the VIPs were Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi as well as Sarawak chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and wife Puan Sri Jamilah Anu.
Also in attendance were Adenan's deputy Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri.
Najib, who arrived at 8.10pm, and guests were treated to performance by local artistes.
The highlight of the event was the Gawai Extravaganza performance which showcased the diversity of ethnics in Sarawak. NEW STRAITS TIMES
