PETALING JAYA, 7 June. Top 20 Burger Sellers in Klang Valley gathered at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya. The sellers were whittled down from an original list of about 70 by local food fans, burger lovers and FriedChillies. The sellers who were dubbed "Burger Heroes' consisted of street burger vendors, burger bakar entrepreneurs and gourmet eateries. It is the only event gathered all delicious burgers in Klang Valley in one location with no discrimination. The event ran from 11am to 11pm.
"After the resounding success of I Eat Nasi Lemak, we looked for the next thing that food fans would love to go to. Burgers like Nasi Lemak is always the highest viewed on our website so it really was no contest," said Adly Rizal, CEO of FriedChillies. In Malaysia, there are three categories of burgers. Firstly, are street vendors who have been doing it since the 70's. Street vendors originally sell ready-made patties popularised by Ramly patty. Burger sellers of this category are pioneers of the burger business and innovated sauce and style of cooking to give their burgers a unique flair.
Burger Bakar, a rather new phenomenon is what we call 'street gourmet'. Patties are handmade, usually heavily spiced and then grilled on the street. The fainal category is restaurant gourmet, made popular by specialty burger shops. Patties are more American style, loosely formed without much embellishment, counting mostly on freshness of the meat.
Fans of our Burger Heroes cam out to support their favourite eateries and came away with awareness of other great burger out there. We wanted all of our Burger Heroes to get more fans from this event. It's how we honour their passion and dedication to burger craft. They deserve it.
