MCA : EX MINISTER BARKING THE WRONG TREE.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today dismissed claims made by a former minister that the ethnic Chinese party is adopting anti-Malay and anti-Umno stances to burnish its image.

Liow suggested that the ex-minister in question, Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin's attack on MCA was misguided and was barking up the wrong tree.

"He must get his facts right. He's barking up the wrong tree.

"When I comment on certain things, when MCA comments, we are commenting on issues, we are not commenting on any parties or any personalities," the newly-minted transport minister told reporters here after launching AirAsia X's new flight route to Xi'an, China.

Yesterday, Zainuddin accused MCA of trying to seek popularity and gain support from the non-Malay community by displaying an anti-Malay and anti-Umno attitude.

In a post on his blog, the former information minister claimed that MCA was using old strategies and mimicking rivals DAP as the party had ran out of ideas how to recapture Chinese support.

Zainuddin singled out Liow and MCA Religious Harmony Bureau chief Datuk Ti Lian Ker's for criticising Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi's handling of an incident involving the severed head of a cow last weekend.

Liow condemned the cow head incident as an "irresponsible" act which could spark racial tension, stressing the need for sensitivity about the feelings of others in a multiracial country.

Zahid said the cow head had been dumped at Penang DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer's house because the victim was a "loose cannon". Ti described  the remark as "apathetic and arrogant" as well as encouraging a "state of lawlessness".

Zainuddin's outburst in which he said MCA to should  "go to hell", was "unbecoming" behaviour for a former Cabinet minister, Ti said.

Ti added that Zainuddin's flare-up against MCA will cost Barisan Nasional votes in the next election.
