SELANGOR GROUP OBJECT WAN AZIZAH AS MENTERI BESAR

A group of young people claiming to be members of 'Gerakan Anak Jati Selangor' gathered in front of the State Secretariat building here today to protest against the proposal to have PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail appointed the new menteri besar of Selangor.

A representative of the group, Mohd Kamal Hasbi, said that as Selangor-born residents they wanted the menteri besar to be someone who hailed from the state.

"We will strongly oppose if Wan Azizah is appointed the menteri besar because she is not from Selangor," he told reporters.

Mohd Kamal said the Selangor political upheaval had raised all sorts of negative reaction among the young people.

He claimed that the administration of Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for almost two terms had made Selangor one of the developed states in the country.

All of Abdul Khalid's efforts to develop Selangor were beyond dispute and the Port Klang assemblyman was seen to be a people-oriented leader, he said.

Yesterday, the Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council decided on proposing Wan Azizah as the only candidate to take over from Abdul Khalid as the menteri besar.
