Police arrested N. Surendran on Monday night to facilitate investigations into a sedition case involving the PKR vice-president.
City CID deputy chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa confirmed the arrest and said that the Padang Serai MP was detained at the Wangsa Maju police headquarters.
"Surendran was served with the warrant when he arrived at 7.30pm to have his statement recorded.
"He has since been released on police bail," he said.
When contacted, Surendran said he was only acting in his legal capacity as counsel for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"I think this whole exercise is unnecessary… This is an interference of my duties as a lawyer," said the Padang Serai MP.
PKR legal adviser Latheefa Koya said that a statement was taken from Surendran, along with a mugshot and fingerprints.
A warrant of arrest was issued against N. Surendran for alleging that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II charge was a political conspiracy involving Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Surendran is expected to be charged under the Sedition Act at the Jalan Duta Sessions Court on Tuesday.
