PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang should endorse PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Selangor's Mentri Besar, said DAP Women's Wing Chairman Chong Eng (pic).
"Wan Azizah has been rejected on the grounds she lacks capability as a Mentri Besar. We are of the view that the reason is unacceptable. Hadi should have raised it in meetings with Pakatan Rakyat leaders to give PKR leaders a chance to have a chance to state reasons of nominating Wan Azizah as Mentri Besar," said Chong.
Chong, who issued a press statement on Sunday added that PAS under Abdul Hadi had repeatedly changed its stand on the issue of the Selangor Mentri Besar.
"From supporting Khalid, to accepting the move to change the Menteri Besar in the meeting of Pakatan Rakyat leaders to nominate Wan Azizah as the sole candidate for Mentri Besar , now PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is nominated instead and Wan Azizah has been rejected," said Chong.
Chong added that Wan Azizah has 10 years worth of campaign experience leading the Reformasi movement, and is an opthalmologist with a degree from a renowned medical school.
"She may not be good in strategy and power play but she has perseverance. She stands up during difficult times and she is bold. She has integrity and no record of corruption. She is both strong and gentle which
offers an alternative to the mainstream, where such leadership styles have yet to be recognised. Gentleness does not mean one is without inner strength," said Chong.
Chong pointed out that Wan Azizah was both the candidate proposed by the Pakatan Rakyat coalition and that Wan Azizah had received the support from 30 state assemblymen.
"In questioning Wan Azizah's capability, this is equivalent to questioning the decision of the Pakatan Rakyat leaders and 30 Selangor state assemblymen. Abdul Hadi's act of doubting the capability of his peers in public reflects his disrespect of his peers. On this issue, his act has split PAS and Pakatan Rakyat," said Chong.
