PERMATANG PAUH BY-ELECTION, TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE - MUKHRIZ MAHATHIR

Voters in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency should realise that their welfare has been neglected by their Member of Parliament (MP) all this while and that it is now time to make a change, said Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (pic).

He said voters in the Parliamentary constituency who will cast their votes at the by-election on May 7 must reject issues that did not bring any benefit to them.

"I hope the people in Permatang Pauh can see that the responsibility of their Member of Parliament is to give priority to the constituents.

"But, the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary constituency is among the most neglected (by their MP) in terms of the people's welfare," he told reporters, here on Tuesday.

Mukhriz, who is also the Kedah Umno Liaison Chairman, had earlier officiated the "Starting Point of the National Entrepreneurship Institute (Insken)" at the official residence of the Mentri Besar at Seri Mentaloon.

He said that Kedah Umno would work hard to convince the voters in Permatang Pauh to reject issues that did not bring any benefit to them.

He said that as Umno and the Barisan Nasional were the ‘underdogs’ in the Permatang Pauh by-election, the approach used must be different from that in the Rompin parliamentary by-election.

The Mentri Besar said that the PAS reaction in the Permatang Pauh by-election would also be interesting to watch especially after the party's political allies, PKR and the DAP, had totally rejected the aspiration of the party to implement Hudud law in Keantan.

The question is whether PAS would be together with the PKR and the DAP in Permatang Pauh.

"I want to see the sincerity of PAS, when Hudud which the party had strongly struggled for was being rejected by the opposition pact. Will they continue to provide campaigners (for the by-election)," Mukhriz said.

Meanwhile, with regard to the Rompin by-election, he described the selection of the Rompin acting Umno division head, Datuk Hasan Arifin as the BN candidate as being the most appropriate choice.

He hoped that voters in the constituency would give their support to Hasan who is regarded as ‘orang lama’ (an old hand) to serve as the Rompin Member of Parliament.

Earlier in his speech at the event, Mukhriz said the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) of the Prime Minister's Department had approved RM40.5mil in facilitating grants to finance 18 projects by entrepreneurs in Kedah.

In addition, he said Teraju had also allocated RM8 million to Kedah through the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) for the development of micro entrepreneurs in the state. - BERNAMA
