A total of 627 voters comprising police personnel and their spouses will be involved in early voting for the Permatang Pauh by-election on Sunday.
Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said early voting would be held in four polling centres, namely Dewan Gemilang, Seberang Perai Tengah police district headquarters and Berek Kelamin, Kubang Semang police station, that would be opened from 8am until 5pm.
“The early voting will be witnessed by agents of contesting candidates at the respective by-elections' divisions.
“Local oberservers fron non governmental organisations and acedemicians appointed by EC can also observe the process and are permitted to enter the polling centre by the police,” he said in a statement here today.
He said indelible ink would be used for the voting process in accordance with the ordinary voting method handled by EC workers.
The Permatang Pauh by-election on May 7 witnessed a four-cornered fight between Suhaimi Sabudin (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR), Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Salleh Isahak (Independent).
It is being held after the seat was vacant following the decision of thePardon Board to reject the petition for a royal pardon filed by its Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim through his family members.
Anwar is currently serving a five-year imprisonment for sodomy. BERNAMA
