The ongoing tug-of-war between Barisan Nasional (BN) and PKR with regard to PAS does not augur well for the people.
First we were made to believe that PAS was the bad one whose stubbornness had broken Pakatan Rakyat. Then we were told PAS had silently accepted the Trojan horse offered by Umno. We later witnessed PAS not agreeing to motions by the Opposition, thereby giving those in BN the last laugh.
When news broke that PAS was leaving the Opposition to form a new cooperation with Umno,
champagne bottles were popped. Finally, the biggest thorn in the side of the Opposition coalition was being removed. But before we could enjoy our first sip, Rafizi Ramli of PKR dropped the atomic bomb by cautioning others in the Opposition that severing ties with PAS would mean the risk of losing in the general election of 2018.
All this while we were made to believe that Umno was racist while PKR was moderate. However, PKR is now fighting to maintain relations with the most conservative political party in Malaysia all for the sake of race.
Rafizi claims that racial politics are deeply ingrained in Umno. However, he recently defended his decision of working together with PAS so as to woo Malay voters into the Opposition.
Is PKR also playing the racial card to remain relevant in politics? Is Rafizi tomorrow going to say that death by stoning and punishment via the amputation of hands be allowed in Malaysia for Muslim offenders?
DAP leaders should discuss if moving along with PKR is a good idea. With all the mess PAS has created, only a desperate person would still want to hold their hand.
I personally feel that PKR is starting to look like a desperate party.
Thanks to PKR’s immature antics, they have dented hopes for a victory in the upcoming Sarawak state elections. Under Chief Minister Adenan Satem’s leadership, it is going to be a Herculean task upsetting BN in Sarawak.
DAP has a host of progressive leaders and they do not need to depend on PKR or PAS. Parti Amanah Negara is there to ensure that Malay votes are not all lost. It is better for DAP to make a decision now and move forward.
Currently, the Opposition is taking one step forward and two steps backwards. All of a sudden Lim Kit Siang is calling it a blessing in disguise that the Opposition did not win GE13.
