KUANTAN: The suspect who shot dead an AmBank officer in a robbery in Subang Jaya, Selangor last Wednesday is believed to be still in the country.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin said the suspect who is classified as dangerous and armed with a pump gun can turn aggressive and endanger public safety.
He said the task force set up to track down the suspect is cooperating with police contingents nationwide and monitoring all checkpoints along the border.
"At present, we do not need the help of Interpol and hope public with information will contact us fast," he told reporters after opening a coordination meeting to mark the 86th police officers associations national conference, here today.
Also present were Pahang police chief Datuk Sharifuddin Ab Ghani and Cuepacs president Datuk Omar Osman.
Mohd Bakri urged the public to contact the police immediately if they have any any information relating to the suspect's identity.
Police investigate from various angles, including whether the suspect was assisted by other parties after committing the crime.
"I warn individuals who try to abet this violent criminal that stern action will be taken against them under Section 212 of the Penal Code," he said.
Bank officer Norazita Abu Talib, 37, was shot in the head at close range by a security guard at 6.20pm on Oct 23 at USJ Sentral, Subang Jaya.
The security guard then fled with RM450,000 from the bank's vault.
Police had detained three people including a woman, believed to be the security guard's wife, on the day of the incident and recovered RM20,000. BERNAMA
