KLANG, March 4. A policeman who watched his colleague fatally stabbed and was himself slashed by one of four foreigners in Taman Sentosa early today, displayed true grit when he took on them, shooting the assailant and an accomplice dead.
Earlier, the attackers, believed to be Indonesian illegal immigrants, ambushed the two South Klang police headquarters policemen who were patrolling Lorong Yusuf Shahbudin 44D at the housing estate about 5am.
They seized Police Corporal Raja Aizam Raja Mohd's pistol after stabbing him in the abdomen with a knife and also slashed his colleague, Corporal Mohd Aidil Mustafa on the face.
Despite the injury and outnumbered by the attackers, Mohd Aidil, 29, was bent on taking on the foreigners when one of them attempted to shoot him with Raja Aizam's pistol. The gun jammed.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Mohd Aidil then wrenched the gun from the assailant before using his own gun to shoot dead the man and an accomplice in the 5am incident.
He said Raja Aizam, 53, a father of four, died while being sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here.
Mohd Aidil, whose wife is a lance corporal at the Tumpat police headquarters in Kelantan was warded at the same hospital where he is recuperating.
The two police coporals were patrolling in a car at the housing estate when they were ambushed by the foreigners, Khalid told reporters after paying his last respects to Raja Aizam at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said three foreign women and a man were detained, and a knife and parang seized to facilitate investigations into the incident.
"They were picked up near the scene of the attack. We detained three women and a man, all foreign nationals, and are currently identifying their country of origin.
"We are also in the midst of tracking down others, believed to be involved in the incident," he said near here. BERNAMA
