KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- PAS has been urged not to bow to objection from DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to the tabling of a private member's bill on hudud in the Dewan Rakyat.
Former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa said now would be the best time for PAS to table the bill to enable the Kelantan government to implement hudud, considering that the federal government and UMNO had expressed support.
"Hudud is among the main thrusts of PAS' struggle and which we have long fought for, in line with syariah objectives. I hope the implementation of syariah (Islamic law) is given priority over other matters that are political in nature.
"PAS should ensure it (implementation of hudud) becomes a reality because Muslims have been waiting for this to happen," he said when met at the International Seminar on Appreciation of Wasatiyyah (Moderation) in the Maqasid Syariah Framework, here, today.
Yesteray, DAP publicity chief Tony Pua and PKR vice-president N. Surendran gave a strong reminder to PAS that the opposition partners had never been unanimous on hudud and any attempt to table the hudud bill in parliament would be opposed.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob had recently stated that the private member's bill on hudud would be tabled in parliament to obtain approval for the Islamic law to be implemented in the state.
On the failure of PAS in certain states to openly declare support for the Kelantan PAS' move, Nasharudin said the decision on hudud and to table the bill in parliament was a collective effort.
"When the decision was collectively made by the Ulama Syura Council and the PAS Central Committee, it must be respected although certain individuals may have their own views on the matter," he said. Bernama
