MCA vice president Chew Mei Fun today called upon ruling party Umno to immediately take action against its members who protested and eventually trespassed into the Penang State Assembly yesterday.
Chew, who is also Penang MCA chief, said Umno must discipline and deal with the troublemakers who put parliamentary democracy to shame
“The actions of the Penang Umno Youth members who displayed blatant defiance by breaking into the sanctity of the Penang State Legislative Assembly must be severely admonished.
“I urge Umno to take disciplinary action against these troublemakers to show vigilance and ensure that similar incidents will not be repeated,” she said in a statement today.
She said that the “invasion and occupation of the state legislative assembly” should not be tolerated.
“These troublemakers had attempted to paralyse proceedings in the state legislative assembly, and in so doing, had violated the democratic process.
“Hence, their actions must be deeply criticised. The methods by these hooligans have caused the public to be disgusted with Umno,” she added.
She further stressed that Umno must act against these culprits in order to avoid any accusation that Umno was harbouring them.
Action is also necessary to prevent further negative impression by the public against Barisan Nasional, she added.
